Overview

This course is designed to give participants a clear understanding of how wireless systems work and how mobility is supported. Topics include necessary mathematical formulations for understanding wireless and mobile system applications, discussion of how ad hoc and sensor networks are used in military and commercial applications, Bluetooth standard, Wireless Mesh Networks, Femto Cells, Cognitive Radio, and Heterogeneous Networks. Participants need to be familiar with the basic structure of wired and/or wireless networks for optimal performance in the course. A familiarity with the following items is also helpful: the layered network models (OSI, TCP-IP), network protocols, radio frequency and wave propagation fundamentals, wireless LAN topologies, and basic medium access (CSMA/CA).

Objectives

After completing the course, participants will be able to:

  • Explain how wireless systems work
  • Discuss how mobility is supported
  • Explain the underlying infrastructure for wireless and mobile systems
  • Discuss needed interactions among different functional components

Format

This course is a 48-hour course, offered in multiple sessions based upon the needs of the customer. The course is delivered in an interactive, learner-centered style of facilitation.
